The State Prosecutor’s Office continues to make a strong and continuous contribution to judicial reforms and to meeting the final benchmarks for closing negotiation Chapters 23 and 24. The goal of these reforms is to build the Prosecutor’s Office as an autonomous, independent and professional institution, capable of applying the law consistently and efficiently, with visible and sustainable results.
Supreme State Prosecutor Milorad Marković, Chief Special Prosecutor Vladimir Novović, and representatives of the state prosecutorial organization participated in the meeting of the Subcommittee on Justice, Freedom and Security, held on February 10 and 11 in Podgorica.
On that occasion, Marković emphasized that the results achieved continuously clearly confirm progress both in the fight against organized crime and corruption and in the protection of fundamental rights.
“The full autonomy of the prosecutorial organization and the independence of each individual prosecutor represent a key precondition for efficient work, which is built within the prosecution service itself, but must also be guaranteed and protected by the legislative and executive branches,” Marković stressed.
The Supreme State Prosecutor stated that building a strong and independent institution requires perseverance, excellence and continuity, and that the State Prosecutor’s Office continues along this path with the clear goal of being fully prepared to function as a reliable and equal partner within the system of the European Union.
