Public Statement

Regarding the statement made by the Chair of the Administrative Committee of the Parliament of Montenegro, MP Jelena Nedović, at the Committee’s session, claiming that the salary of the Supreme State Prosecutor, along with the salaries of Constitutional Court judges, had been increased by 90%, and in order to provide the public with accurate and complete information, the Supreme State Prosecutor’s Office of Montenegro would like to point out the following:

The claim that the salary of the Supreme State Prosecutor was increased by 90% is inaccurate.

Namely, at today’s session, a functional allowance amounting to 30% of the basic salary was determined, in accordance with the Law on Amendments to the Law on the State Prosecutor’s Office. This solution does not represent an exception, but rather reflects a systemic and legally grounded approach to regulating the rights of holders of prosecutorial office. At the same time, we point out that the same functional allowance, in the same amount, for heads of state prosecutor’s offices and state prosecutors, had previously been determined by the Prosecutorial Council of Montenegro.

Therefore, any claim that the salary of the Supreme State Prosecutor was increased by 90% is not supported by the facts and misleads the public.

The Supreme State Prosecutor’s Office emphasizes that it is of key importance for public officials to provide accurate and legally grounded information in their public statements, in order to preserve public trust in the institutions of the system.
