Supreme State Prosecutor Milorad Marković held a meeting with representatives of non-governmental organizations to discuss ways to improve cooperation with the aim of strengthening the rule of law, as well as the importance of reforming the State Prosecutor’s Office for its preservation.
Marković emphasized that well-founded positions and critical assessments by the non-governmental sector, based on a detailed analysis of the situation within the prosecution service, provide guidance for improving the work of the State Prosecutor’s Office, noting that they can contribute to greater transparency and efficiency in its operations.
“The relationship between the State Prosecutor’s Office and civil society should be based on openness and constructive dialogue and should be further developed,” the Supreme State Prosecutor emphasized, adding that a credible and committed civil society plays an important role in strengthening citizens’ trust in the work of the Prosecution Service.
Representatives of non-governmental organizations assessed the cooperation with the Prosecution Service as open and pointed to certain challenges in the functioning of the State Prosecutor’s Office. The participants put forward proposals for more concrete and substantive forms of cooperation in the coming period, as well as for organizing periodic thematic meetings.
The meeting was attended by Prosecutorial Council member Sekula Raičević, Secretary of the Council Secretariat Hermin Šabotić, as well as representatives of numerous non-governmental organizations working in the field of protecting the rule of law.
