Bråmerc: State Prosecutor’s Office Making Significant Progress in the Prosecution of War Crimes

Significant progress and concrete results have been achieved in the prosecution of war crimes, Chief Prosecutor of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals Serge Brammertz assessed in the latest report of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals, covering the period from 16 November 2025 to 15 May 2026.

The commencement of the trial in the case against Z.G., who is charged with crimes committed in the Hadžići area, confirms that close cooperation between the Special State Prosecutor’s Office and the Mechanism’s Office of the Prosecutor is producing concrete results, as the case originated from one of two investigative files previously transferred by the Mechanism’s Office of the Prosecutor to the Special State Prosecutor’s Office.

As stated in the Report, the Mechanism’s Office of the Prosecutor will continue to provide the necessary assistance to the Special State Prosecutor’s Office, with the expectation that even greater progress in the prosecution of war crimes will be recorded in the coming period.
