Marković Attends the Opening of the Judicial Year of the European Court of Human Rights

Supreme State Prosecutor Milorad Marković and State Prosecutor Maja Janković attended the ceremonial opening of the judicial year of the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg, where the central theme was the protection of media pluralism and the democratic process in contemporary society.

During the event, issues related to the right to information, freedom of expression, the integrity of the electoral process, and the role of the judiciary in safeguarding the democratic order were discussed.

The views and case law of the ECHR serve as an incentive for the State Prosecutor’s Office to consistently apply European standards in the protection of fundamental rights and freedoms.

During their stay in Strasbourg, Marković and Janković held meetings with ECHR Vice-President Ivana Jelić, as well as with delegations from other countries, during which they discussed the challenges faced by the judiciary in ensuring effective protection of human rights and opportunities for further development of cooperation.

The Montenegrin delegation also included President of the Supreme Court Valentina Pavličić, President of the Constitutional Court Snežana Armenko, Constitutional Court Judge Momirka Tešić, and the Agent of Montenegro before the European Court of Human Rights, Mirko Đuković.
