Ahead of the World Day against Trafficking in Persons, the Supreme State Prosecutor\u2019s Office organised a roundtable in Podgorica dedicated to combating trafficking in human beings, with the aim of strengthening inter-institutional cooperation, improving the detection and prosecution of trafficking offences, and enhancing the protection and support provided to victims of this form of organised crime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event brought together state prosecutors, representatives of the police, state authorities, international organisations and civil society organisations working in the field of preventing and combating trafficking in human beings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

State Prosecutor at the Higher State Prosecutor\u2019s Office in Podgorica and Head of the Operational Team for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings, Illegal Crossing of the State Border and Smuggling of Persons, Sne\u017eana \u0160i\u0161evi\u0107, addressed the participants and emphasised that trafficking in human beings is one of the most complex and serious criminal offences, with long-lasting and multifaceted consequences for victims.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur goal is not simply to have a certain number of cases, prosecuted perpetrators and convictions, but to recognise every victim and provide them with full protection and support. Trafficking in human beings is a serious violation of fundamental human rights and an attack on human dignity, not merely a criminal offence,\u201d \u0160i\u0161evi\u0107 said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The importance of creating an environment in which victims feel safe and protected was also highlighted, both during judicial proceedings and after their conclusion, with the full support of society throughout the process of recovery and reintegration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was emphasised that institutions must act together, swiftly, efficiently and responsibly to ensure that perpetrators are brought to justice and that victims receive the protection they deserve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the roundtable, participants discussed current challenges in combating trafficking in human beings, exchanged practical experiences, and considered opportunities to improve mechanisms for prevention and the early identification of victims, as well as the application of international standards in the prosecution of such cases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The work of the Operational Team for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings makes a particularly important contribution to strengthening a coordinated institutional response. Through cooperation among representatives of the competent institutions, the Team facilitates more effective information exchange, monitoring of challenges in specific cases, and improved joint action aimed at the timely detection of criminal offences and the protection of victims.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
