In the first quarter of 2026, out of a total of 30 activities envisaged by the Action Plan for the period 2026\u20132027 for the implementation of the Strategy for the Investigation of War Crimes 2024\u20132027, 18 activities became due for implementation, representing 60% of the total number of planned activities. All activities due for implementation were successfully carried out or are being implemented on an ongoing basis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the reporting period, the Special State Prosecutor\u2019s Office continued its work on war crimes cases, further strengthened international and inter-institutional cooperation, and undertook activities aimed at enhancing capacities. Particular attention was paid to cooperation with the competent prosecution offices in the region, the Commission for Missing Persons, and other relevant institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the reporting period, one case concerning criminal offences of war crimes was opened at the Special State Prosecutor\u2019s Office and was resolved by dismissing the criminal complaint. From the previous period, 22 cases remained under preliminary investigation, one case was in the investigation phase, and one case involved a confirmed indictment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Progress in the prosecution of war crimes has also been recognised in reports by international partners, which highlighted the continued application of a proactive approach and the results achieved in investigations and criminal prosecution in war crimes cases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
